"Son Heung-min Cup" from McDonald's, Previously Ten Times Resale Price, Goes on Sale Starting Today
Second Round of "World Cup Set" Launch Includes Son Heung-min Cup
Random Distribution Policy in Place
McDonald's Says, "We Do Not Know the Quantity"
The "Son Heung-min Cup" from McDonald's, which was not released in Korea and saw its resale price soar more than tenfold on secondhand trading platforms, will be available for purchase starting July 13. McDonald's, an official sponsor of the "2026 FIFA North and Central America World Cup," is reintroducing the "World Cup Set" at locations worldwide to commemorate the tournament, and the Son Heung-min Cup is included as part of this relaunch.
However, not everyone who purchases the World Cup Set will receive the Son Heung-min Cup. Since the cups are distributed at random, some customers may not receive the Son Heung-min Cup. As a result, as of the morning of July 13, the cup was still being traded on secondhand platforms at prices ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 won.
According to McDonald's, the World Cup Set—consisting of a Big Mac, medium fries, and a medium cola—will be available again starting July 13. After its initial launch on June 11, the set sold out in just five days, and now, about a month later, sales are resuming. Sales of the set menu had previously ended after the limited-edition cups featuring global football legends, which were randomly provided with each set, were all claimed.
McDonald's included limited-edition cups featuring eight football stars—retired players David Beckham (England), Thierry Henry (France), Ronaldinho (Brazil), as well as host nation players Christian Pulisic (United States), Alphonso Davies (Canada), Santiago Gimenez (Mexico), non-host country player Lamine Yamal (Spain), and captain of the Korean national team Son Heung-min—along with the McDonald's character Grimace in the World Cup Set.
However, in Korea, the Son Heung-min Cup was excluded from the first round of World Cup Sets. This was because Son Heung-min had exclusive model contracts with other food and beverage brands. Son Heung-min had been a brand ambassador for Domino's Pizza, Lotte Wellfood's Worldcone, HiteJinro's Terra, and Mega Coffee, among other food and beverage or alcohol brands. With those contracts ending on July 13, the Son Heung-min Cup has now been included in the set.
Because the Son Heung-min Cup was not available domestically, cups purchased from overseas McDonald's locations were resold in Korea at much higher prices than the World Cup Set itself. The World Cup Set, which included a Big Mac set and a limited-edition cup, was sold for 8,900 won, but there were posts on secondhand platforms offering only the Son Heung-min Cup for between 80,000 and 90,000 won.
